Step #3 Become an Awesome Musician thru using Song Surgeon 3!
Hi, my name is David O'Toole and I'm a Musician from Ireland. I've also taught many students, and I continue to love my music as much as when I started.

Song Surgeon 3 - the Essential Basic

The main purpose of Song Surgeon 3 is that it allows you to take any piece of music (a Saxophone solo for example), and slow it down to a snails pace without changing the key.

In our example video I have taken some of Wayne Shorter's phenomenal speed bursts and slowed them down to a more 'humane' learning level.

It is suitable for any Saxophonists no matter what skill level they are at. For example, I'm a multi-musician playing 30 years and I use it every day. I have students who are playing only months and this is the first thing I recommend to them. Their advancement is uncanny once they know and use this type of approach. I can pickup Sax lines from it and transfer them to the guitar.

In fact I know that it is so good and SO effective, that I even built this dedicated site to it! It has the power to change the known music world and turn it upside down. And all for the better I'm so glad to say.

Song Surgeon 3 - Highest Class Sound Engine Used

When you slow down a Saxophone solo or piece of music, this new version sounds the more or less the same quality-wise as the original and it makes it so much easier to hear and emulate what any player is doing. ANY player, ANY Style!

For example at the extreme, you could take a solo by any Saxophonists and hear it as if he was sitting in front of you and playing it in slow motion.

In the example video we've taken virtuoso master Wayne Shorter and reduced his playing to a humble crawling speed! Suitable for us 'mere mortals' :).

You'll hear every fine detail believe me. It doesn't matter what style of Saxophone you want to learn and even master. Its a 'No Holds Barred' software learning tool. I'd even class it as 'dangerous' :), and any investor can be too with its use.

Learn From Your Teacher and the Masters - Mix It Up!

My advice? Don't get left behind and learn directly from the masters themselves. That is the key to becoming a seriously hot musician whatever instrument you play. Use this training in conjunction with a great teacher and player, and you can become unstoppable.

The Multi Style Uses of Song Surgeon 3

Of course because of its very nature, you can use it on any style of music. You can hear every little nuance of a player. Such as how does a Saxophone player play that fast Arpeggio? Where exactly does he put in the Trill?

You can use it to easily learn Jazz, Classical, Bebop, Pop ... ANY style, there are no restrictions. And the best thing? You will be learning it from the source. From the original recording. This type of learning will seriously strengthen your musical ear too.

The Multi Instrument Uses of Song Surgeon 3

It doesn't matter if you play any of the following types of Sax:
  • Alto Saxophone
  • Baritone Saxophone
  • Tenor Saxophone
  • Bass Saxophone
  • C Melody Saxophone
  • C Soprano Saxophone
  • Contrabass Saxophone
  • Mezzo-soprano Saxophone (Alto in F)
  • Sopranino Saxophone
  • Soprano Saxophone
  • Soprillo
  • Subcontrabass Saxophone

Each type of instrument can benefit from this type of audio learning.

Song Surgeon 3 Updates

The original version of Song Surgeon was to me, a touch of sheer genius in itself. But version 3 takes even that to new previously unreached limits. The main update concerning musicians is the new sound engine. This latest update allows you to slow down any piece of music without major degradation in sound.

This makes a huge difference to make learning any particular musical piece a LOT easier (sorry for shouting but it is a crucial new addition).

Insert Silences Anywhere

A brilliant innovation has been added to version 3 - its my favorite new addition. You add custom timed silences after every loop. This allows you to play the loop and then try it on your Saxophone yourself. So you can work on any tricky bit before the loop plays again. Loop it and learn. My advice here is to use headphones and seal out the rest of the world. Use every little trick to enhance your concentration when working on a piece.

With this setup you can work on any troublesome or difficult parts of the solo. Phenomenal little addition this, don't underestimate it.

Easy Creation of Custom Audio Files

With Song Surgeon Pro version, you can easily create create multiple loops. For example you could have a Saxophone solo playing at normal speed, then 70% speed, then 50%, right down to 10%. In the Wayne Shorter example its slowed down to 40%, but you can go right down to 10%. Experimentation with every piece is the key.

Some will leap out at you, some won't and require careful study. At full speed some piece can be positively frightening, but slowed down they are much easier to handle

You can also put counts in at the start of each loop - this is a very clever addition too.

EQ Sliders

Slowing down a solo without changing the key and having crystal clear sound at lower speeds is so powerful that I can't emphasize that enough here, but you do even more. You can heavily adjust the EQ on any piece you may be working on.

This allows you to bring out the Saxophone in a mix and highlight it so that it stands out from the rest of the mix. You'll be amazed at easy it is to hear what a professional Saxophonist is doing on any piece or solo if you work with this area.

Music Pad/Transcription Area

Another essential extra is the inclusion of a Music Pad/Transcription Area. This is so useful. No more bits of paper lying around and getting lost. Think of it as a great time saver. Build a little collection and you won't lose it.

Export to Your Computer

When you have setup a loop in this way, you can then export it as an mp3 soundfile to play on your PC or Ipad. My advice? Build a collection - further details and tips on this approach below.

Snooper Technology

Also included in this killer software (Pro Version) is a patch called 'Sniffer Technology'. This enables you to download and extract a music file from video sites such as Youtube and play them in Song Surgeon 3.

Who Do You Want to Learn From?

So which legendary Saxophone (or 'Saxomophone' as Homer Simpson call it :) do you want to learn from? The choice is huge. Think of all the fantastic recorded Saxophone that's been released over the years. Perhaps its one of the following Sax masters:

Charlie Parker
John Coltrane
Branford Marsalis (my fave)
Lester Young
Coleman Hawkins
Sonny Rollins
Eric Dolphy
Cannonball Adderley
Stanley Turrentine
Dexter Gordon
Joe Henderson
Benny Carter
Michael Brecker
Gerry Mulligan
Stan Getz
Ornette Coleman
Clarence Clemons

Song Surgeon 3 Saxophone Learning Tips

Here's what I would suggest to you if you want to learn fast, quality playing. Before you start, make a folder on your PC specifically for this. Put it right on your desktop.

#1 Choose 3 of your fave Saxophonists

#2 Choose 3 of your favorite runs/arpeggios from these 3 players

#3 Run them thru Song Surgeon 3 - take them apart and learn them note for note including embellishments, Trills and fine touches.

#4 Incorporate these 3 pieces into your own style. Change them to suit however you like. Its best to change them slightly to create your own style. That will happen naturally as you use them over different songs.

#5 Practice playing them regularly (DAILY basis is crucial)

Regular Daily Practice is the Vital Key!

After a few weeks of this you won't recognize your playing.

It will come on in leaps and bounds. Remember the key is thru daily practice sessions using Audio.

I suggest at least 30 minutes a day, every day.

This will far outdo cramming in 6 hours on the weekend.

Do as much time as you can allow.

Remember, DAILY and Structured Practice is the Key!

Windows and Mac and Song Surgeon 3
